COVENTRY CYCLING CLUB – NEWS SHEET MAY 2011

Help required – Mallory Park circuit races 7th and 9th June 2011

The Mallory Park circuit races take place every week on Tuesday and Thursday.  The organisation of the events is shared across clubs, and the CCC’s events are on 7th and 9th June.  There is a youth event starting at 6.45pm and the 3rd/4th Cat event starts at 7.15pm.  We need some help of both evenings to look after the signing on and to help record the first 10 riders across the line at the end of the event.  Please let me know if you can come along to either of the evenings.  (Rita Humphreys 07870 237374).  The location is Mallory Park, A5, A47, A447 to Kirkby Mallory, just above Hinckley – the circuit is well signposted from junction 1 on the M69.

If anyone has a good quality digital video please bring it along to help us film the finish to help with rider identification.

Forthcoming Club Championships:

Club Championship events are coming up:

Note the date for the 25 mile championship – as in previous years the 25 mile is to be held on  SUNDAY 5th June – to avoid dark nights and busy roads.  K10/25B, 10.00am, gather by caravan site Princethorpe B4453.

Ladies and Junior 10 mile championship will be held on Wednesday 22 June, K10/10F, 7.30pm, gather at caravan site at Princethorpe B4453.

CCC’s Road Race Championship will be at Mallory Park on Tuesday 14th June.

Forthcoming Open Events:

Dave Humphreys is promoting the CCC Open 10 mile time trial on 9th July on K10/10F, starting at 2.00pm, with the head quarters at Princethorpe Junior School.  Entry fee is £7.50 – see details in the CTT handbook – or hand your entries to Dave at the evening time trials (entries close around 26th June).  Get your entries in – it would be great to have another excellent club turnout as we did for the Di Cooke (see below).  If you are not entering the event then Dave would appreciate your help as a Marshall on the day.

Recent Events:

The Coventry Cycling Club promoted the Diane Cooke Memorial 10 mile time trial on Saturday 30th April.  There was an excellent entry of 45 ladies, the winner Michelle King posted a time of 22.43 and six ladies from the CCC took part including first open events for Jenny Ollier and Julie Hinds.  Fastest CCC’s Lady was Junior Lauren Humphreys with a time of 27.38, followed by Rita Humphreys, Judy Elson and Sam Griffin.  The mens event was won by Jon Simpkins with a 21.01 and a team of 4 CCC’s men were led home by Jon Wood 23.14, Andy Delaney 26.12, Phil Davis 27.24 and congratulations to new CCC’s member Dave Green for taking part in his first open 10 mile TT posting 30.58.  The fastest tandem was Colin Stiles & Dave Overton with 23.12

In a separate event Kevin Jeffs took part in the WCTTCA 50 mile time trial based on the K50/3 course on the A49 at Prees in Shropshire.  He posted a time of 2 hours 12 minutes and 12 seconds and won the event on handicap with a 10.01 improvement.

The Friday Night Mountain Bike series started in May at Borough Hill in Daventry, with subsequent events at Mallory Park and Cosford in Rugby.  This has been well attended by Coventry CC riders, Sam Griffin, Phil Davis, Andy Delaney, Judy Elson and the Humphreys family.  Excellent rides from Sam Griffin and Judy Elson have placed them third and forth in the overall series in the Ladies competition.
